Privacy Policy

Overview

ValueScan uses photos or text you choose to submit to identify items and estimate resale values. This policy explains what leaves your device, why it is processed, and what remains local.

ValueScan does not sell personal data, display third-party advertising, or use app data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Item scans and searches

• When you start a photo scan, the selected image is sent over an encrypted connection to the ValueScan backend and OpenAI for item identification. Text descriptions are processed in the same way.
• Identified item details are sent to the ValueScan backend to produce a price estimate. Marketplace search providers may receive item search terms when those sources are available; they do not receive the item photo from ValueScan.
• The ValueScan backend does not create a user account or intentionally store submitted photos in an app database. Service providers may process technical logs and request content under their own retention policies.

OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models unless the API customer opts in. By default, abuse-monitoring logs may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy and API data controls.

Subscriptions

Apple processes payments. ValueScan uses RevenueCat to validate purchases and control premium access. RevenueCat receives an automatically generated anonymous app user ID, purchase and receipt history, subscription status, device and operating-system information, last-used timestamps, and limited subscription analytics attributes. ValueScan does not provide RevenueCat with your name or email address.

Data stored on your device

Your portfolio, item details, local image references, costs, quantities, sold-item information, notes, value history, onboarding status, and free-scan usage are stored locally on your device. ValueScan does not currently provide a cloud account or cloud portfolio backup. Removing items or deleting the app can remove this local data.

Technical information and retention

Hosting and service providers may process IP addresses, request times, device or operating-system details, and error information needed to deliver and secure the service. ValueScan keeps local app data until you remove it or delete the app. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their policies and legal obligations. AI request content is retained according to the provider terms described above.

Your choices

• You control camera and photo-library permissions in iOS Settings.
• You can use a text description instead of a photo.
• You can remove portfolio items or delete ValueScan to remove locally stored app data.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account subscription settings.
